It was a habit of many from among the salaf to complete the recitation of the whole Qur'an within a week and therefore people such as Hamza Al-Zayyat (d.156/772) worked on dividing the Qur'an into 7 Equal Sections, each Section became know as a Manzil.

The Manzil (7 Equal Sections or Portions of the Qur'an):
Manzil 1: Surah Al-Fatihah To Surah An-Nisa' - Total 4 Surahs - COLORED BLUE
Al-Ma'ida (chapter 5) through At-Tawba (chapter 9) consisting of 5 chapters - COLORED GREEN
Yunus (chapter 10) through An-Nahl (chapter 16) consisting of 7 chapters - COLORED ORANGE
Al Isra' (chapter 17) through Al-Furqan (chapter 25) consisting of 9 chapters - COLORED RED
Ash-Shuara' (chapter 26) through Ya-Seen (chapter 36) consisting of 11 chapters - COLORED CYAN
As-Saaffat (chapter 37) through Al-Hujurat (chapter 49) consisting of 13 chapters - COLORED PINK
Qaf (chapter 50) through An-Nas (chapter 114) consisting of 65 chapters - COLORED PURPLE

The Rainbow Quran is a beautiful special edition of the Holy Quran. It features each topic of the Quran in a different color. In Quran, there are 7 Manzils. So each manzil is made in a different color. There are 7 colors in this rainbow Quran.

The font, the Quranic words, the Juzz, the Surahs, and the Ayat, are the same as other black and white (printed) Quran. The Rainbow Quran is color-coded addition to the Holy Quran. These are different colors red, blue, green, and purple. So, this is what people are now calling the rainbow Mushaf. Why is it? That is because they split in different colors to help people to memorize. This different edged are different Juzz to help people to split their reading or memorization. It looks like the colors of a rainbow supposedly.

In most IndoPak Mushaf's the Manzil is pointed out on the margins of the page but many of the Colour Coded Indopak Mushafs have the Pages of Each Manzil in a Different Colour so as to distinguish each Manzil.
