Riyad as-Salihin, a book compiled from the words of the Master of Messengers, was written by Imam Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi al-Dimashqi. This book collects authentic hadiths narrated from the Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdullah on all matters of faith and life. It presents them in chapters and sections, making them easy for the reader to refer to and benefit from.

In Riyad as-Salihin, Imam al-Nawawi committed to only mentioning authentic hadiths, including his own hadiths on various topics such as worship, transactions, and customs. Imam al-Nawawi would begin the collection of hadiths with a title, "What the Hadiths Contain," thus creating a chapter for those hadiths.

Riyad as-Salihin contains 1,903 hadiths narrated by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), quoting only the text without mentioning the chain of transmission. He begins with the Companions, and rarely with the Successors. He narrates the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as narrated by the Companions. In a few instances, he narrates some of the sayings and actions of the Companions, following the example of the Prophet Muhammad or following his example.

Al-Nawawi said about his book: "I decided to compile a summary of authentic hadiths and commit myself to only mentioning authentic hadiths from clear sources, in addition to those from well-known authentic books." A number of contemporary scholars have examined the book and have deemed some of the hadiths in Riyad as weak, including Sheikh al-Albani and al-Arna'ut. They have judged 3% of the book to be weak. Nevertheless, this result indicates that it has achieved a high degree of authenticity. The hadiths are divided into nineteen books, excluding the introductions. The book includes several chapters, the number of which varies depending on their subject matter. The chapters are numbered consecutively from the beginning of the book to its end, totaling three hundred and seventy-two.
