The GSI is a group of Indian eye specialists and scientists who are purely glaucoma centric or have a special interest in glaucoma. An interesting aspect of the GSI is the diversity of its members who practice in different parts of the country. This variation is not just geographical but also in terms of the distribution of resources and availability of equipment. Literacy rates vary amongst patients as does the availability of medicines. Above all, most patients have to bear the costs of investigations and medication on their own. The cost bearing ability also varies across the country. It is this diversity which offers possibilities for original solutions to our myriad of glaucoma problems.
