'Asking for la dolorosa' is the act of requesting that the bill be brought for what was consumed, for example, in a restaurant.

This way of referring to the bill comes from a direct reference to Our Lady of Sorrows, also known as the Virgin Dolorosa, whose image was that of the Virgin Mary at the moment of pain after the death of her son Jesus on the cross.

Comparing a bill with the mother of Christ arose in the traditional Madrid of the Austrias (from the 16th century), which began to open taverns when the capital of the kingdom moved to the city.
