THE PROBLEM
You practice and feel good, but you get to the course and the progress doesn't show up. Hitting the same shot over and over builds confidence in the moment, but it doesn’t prepare you for the course where every shot is different.
THE SOLUTION
Better Golf Practice structures your sessions into block and random practice based on motor learning research.
Block practice means repeating the same shot. It works well for warming up or reinforcing desired feelings. But skills learned exclusively this way don't transfer well. Random practice means varying the target each time. It feels harder, and your performance during practice appears worse, but it forces your brain to solve a new problem with each shot—exactly what the course demands. The research calls this the "contextual interference effect": variability during practice leads to better retention and performance.
The app combines both. Block practice to calibrate, random practice to train and test yourself.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Pick a module: full swing, wedges, putting, or green reading.
2. Select the time you have available.
3. Receive a guided practice routine with a handicap appropriate split between block and random practice.
During random practice, you'll record your final set of shots (the "test" phase). The app measures execution errors (mishits) separately from decision errors (wrong club, misread break or speed), so you know what to work on. Track your patterns over time in the stats section to see the improvement.
