This Catholic Religious Education and Character Education textbook is written in that spirit. Learning is divided into activities that students must carry out in an effort to understand their religious knowledge. However, religious knowledge is not the intended end result.

This understanding must be actualized in real actions and daily attitudes that are in accordance with religious guidance, both in the form of ritual worship and social worship. For this reason, as a religious book that refers to a competency-based curriculum, the learning plan is expressed in the form of activities. In it, a learning sequence is designed which is expressed in religious activities that students must carry out. Thus, this book guides what students must do with their teachers and classmates to understand and practice the teachings of the Catholic faith.

This book is not the only learning resource for students. In accordance with the approach used in the 2013 Curriculum, students are encouraged to study their religion through observing the learning resources that are available and spread widely around them. Moreover, teenagers need to be challenged to be critical and sensitive in responding to natural, social and artistic and cultural phenomena.

The teacher's role is very important to adjust students' absorption capacity to the availability of activities in this book. This adjustment includes, among other things, opening up wide opportunities for teacher creativity to enrich it with other activities that are appropriate and relevant to the place where this book is taught, whether learning through written sources or learning directly from sources in the social and natural environment.

The Catechetical Commission of the Indonesian Catholic Bishops' Conference as the institution responsible for the teachings of the Catholic faith thanks the government, in this case the Ministry of Education and Culture, for their good cooperation so far, starting from the process of preparing the curriculum to writing this textbook.
