You are in command of the American units hoping to strike through the German defense lines at West of St Lo and thunder all the way to the gateway city of Avranches, to break out to Brittany and southern Normandy.

Historical background: Six weeks after the D-Day landings, the Allies are still confined to a narrow beachhead in Normandy. But the moment for a decisive breakout has come. While British forces tie down German panzer divisions around Caen, the U.S. Army prepares Operation Cobra.

First, waves of heavy bombers will shatter a narrow sector of the front allowing the American infantry punch into the breach, securing ground before German defenses can recover for a massive counterattack.

Finally, armored divisions will pour through, aiming to seize the city of Avranches, the gateway to Brittany and the liberation of France.


Hall of Fame shows the status of the setting "American Infantry is Motorized" which gives regular infantry 2 move points instead of 1, since this affects the speed of the game play so much.
