App Description
Sporadic-Sound Desensitisation / Sleep Training
NightNoise is a **sporadic disturbance training app** designed to help you become more comfortable sleeping in real-world environments by simulating unpredictable nighttime sounds.
Unlike traditional white noise or sleep apps, NightNoise doesn’t try to mask the sounds around you. Instead, it introduces subtle, randomized disturbances — similar to the kinds of noises you might hear in everyday life — to help you slowly build tolerance over time.
I created this app for myself after struggling my whole life with sensitivity to sound while sleeping. As a travelling musician, I often found myself in difficult sleep environments — music playing through walls, air conditioning units humming, people snoring, footsteps, doors — and I was always the only one awake, frustrated and exhausted while everyone else slept soundly.
NightNoise started as a personal experiment.
By using it very gently, and gradually, I was able to become more comfortable sleeping through unexpected sounds. I started at almost silent levels and increased the volume slowly over time. The progress wasn’t linear — some nights were easier than others — but over time, things that once felt impossible became manageable.
Today, I can sleep through situations that would previously wake me instantly, like someone leaving the bed or moving around in the morning.
### How It Works
NightNoise features:
• Realistic, randomized sound events
• Dynamic white-noise style loops that shift in pitch and volume
• A unique soundscape every time you start a session
It’s designed to simulate the type of unpredictable sounds that naturally occur at night.
This is **not a soothing app**, and it isn’t about forcing anything. It’s about gentle, gradual exposure at your own pace.
### How to Use
For best results:
• Start at very low volumes
• If you wake up, reduce the volume
• Progress slowly over nights or weeks
• Use a decent speaker or device capable of bass for more realistic sound simulation
If it ever feels too intense, it’s turned up too high. You can’t force progress — and your tolerance may vary from day to day.
### Sounds Include
• Cicadas
• Rain
• Wind
• Doors
• Footsteps
• Barks
• Engines
• Clicks
• Coughs
• Snores
• Trains
• Flushes
• Thunder
### A Personal Note
This app changed my sleep experience after a lifetime of struggle.
It helped me — and I’d love to know if it can help you, too.
