This interactive educational application presents drawings of the local fauna of the Amazon rainforest in Peru, with the names of the animals in the Iskonawa language and in regional Spanish. Each name is accompanied by an audio in the Iskonawa language that is played by touching each image. The
Animals are organized taxonomically according to division, order, and family to which they belong. The main objectives are to encourage the revitalization of the Iskonawa language and promote the intergenerational transmission of traditional ecological knowledge. Those who are not Iskonawa will find this application useful to become familiar with the fauna of Amazonian Peru and to learn the vernacular terms in Spanish for these animals. This 120-page app illustrates the extraordinarily high diversity of fauna found in the western Amazon along with the sophisticated traditional ecological knowledge of the Iskonawa people with illustrations of 400 animal species drawn by Matses artist Guillermo Nëcca Pëmen Mënquë. Contains audio clips with Iskonawa names of the 400 species in the book. The application contains drawings of almost all animal species that have names in the Iskonawa language. Illustrations of species in all the main categories of
animals present in the Iskonawa territory, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, centipedes, arachnids, crustaceans, molluscs, worms, and other invertebrates. More than 200 animal families in 82 orders are represented. This educational application was produced within the framework of a project financed by the National Geographic Society (project NGS-67827R-20), coordinated by Roberto Zariquiey.
