WHAT IS A COURSE IN MIRACLES – ORIGINAL EDITION?
The course is the result of collaboration between two psychologists from Columbia University: Dr. William Thetford and his colleague, Dr. Helen Schucman.
In 1965, Helen experienced what she described as a voice speaking clearly in her head saying, "This is a course in miracles. Please take notes." With Bill Thetford's help and assistance in transcribing her shorthand notes, Schucman received over the approximately 1,500 typewritten pages of A Course in Miracles over a period of seven years.
Schucman did not claim to be the author of the material. As she often explained, she heard a kind of inner dictate and felt compelled to write it down, even though she sometimes disagreed with the content and resisted the process. The voice that spoke through Helen clearly identified itself as Jesus.
However, one does not have to be Christian or accept the traditional teachings of Christianity to benefit from the teachings of the course.
The "Original Edition" is the unabridged edition of the course as completed in 1972 by Helen Schucman and William Thetford.
