App Description

Learn nautical terminology and seamanship with adaptive repetition

Nautical terminology is a precise, specialized vocabulary used in shipping and everyday nautical life. Terms for ship parts, maneuvers, directions, commands, and typical phrases appear in training, literature, technology, and conversations on board. Understanding this language makes it easier to read technical texts, interpret instructions more accurately, and express yourself more precisely. This app helps you not only recognize nautical terms but also retain them long-term.

At its core is an adaptive spaced repetition system that adjusts the repetition intervals to your actual memory capacity. If you reliably recall a term after a longer than expected interval, the next interval lengthens. If you are unsure or answer incorrectly, the interval shortens without resetting your progress. This allows you to efficiently learn precisely the words you need to solidify.

Two learning modes support different learning goals. Multiple choice enables quick practice sessions with immediate feedback and is well-suited for rapidly building a large vocabulary. Self-assessment strengthens active recall: You see a term or meaning, try to recall the corresponding entry yourself, and then evaluate whether you knew it, almost knew it, or didn't know it at all. This approach improves long-term retention.

The content is organized into clear categories so you can learn in a targeted way, for example, onboard equipment, maneuvers and commands, directions and navigation, weather and sea state, and typical expressions. You can flexibly select and deselect categories.

There are two quiz directions: term → meaning and meaning → term. This trains both recognition and active recall. Settings can be changed at any time without losing progress.

Tests provide a clear assessment of your progress. In a test, each card in a category appears once. Depending on your result, you receive a silver or gold medal. Tests can be repeated as often as you like and make your progress transparent.

A map overview also allows you to freely look up and review all terms.
