A couple of FAQs:
Q: Why do I need a wine list scanner?
A: Wine lists can be quite extensive, sometimes over a hundred pages in length with thousands of wines. This makes it almost impossible, even for the most experienced sommeliers (pronounced suh·muhl·yay, a trained wine expert that works for a restaurant) to make a recommendation taking all wines into consideration. Not to mention, a sommelier may not be familiar with your personal tastes and preferences, including wines you've already had. That's where Corkdork can be very useful. By no means do you need to scan the whole wine list–you may want to scan just a page or two–but with Corkdork you have the option.
Q: Isn't a wine list scanner just taking the place of the sommelier?
A: Corkdork is less like a sommelier–who, at no fault of their own, may be inclined to recommend something the restaurant needs to clear our of inventory–and more like your nerdy wine friend who knows your tastes, as well as fancy words like "Sauternes," phrases like "extended maceration," the difference between Left and Right Bank Bordeaux, and signs online petitions to introduce white wine and rosé wine emojis into the Unicode lexicon. (Sidebar: on the latter, this should happen because, for oenophiles, communicating with just the red wine emoji is simply insufficient). Wine is personal because tastes are personal, and Corkdork fosters that.
