The Houston Police Department (HPD) was established by the citizens of the city of Houston and exists to provide services to the citizens and residents of the city of Houston.

The mission of the HPD is to enhance the quality of life in the City of Houston by working cooperatively with the public and within the framework of the U.S. Constitution to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment.

HPD is committed to building strong relationships within the community (relational policing) and increasing transparency. We have embraced the use of the latest technologies and strategies to reduce crime, improve transparency and enhance accountability.

In an effort to enhance safety, increase our transparency and build stronger ties with the community we are proud to provide our mobile application, HoustonPD. The app is free and gives you access to the latest news and tools to assist your interactions with HPD. You can access alerts, news releases, videos, photos and events within this app. Additionally, you will be linked to our Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Periscope accounts for the most up-to-the minute information regarding the department.
