App Description

∆NIM∆ ∆PP is an artistic project by Sabine Kacunko. It is as an online platform to artistically explore the local intersections between the global air quality index (AQI) and individual human activities. The suggested potentials of collective action are expressed through project´s labelling as "the world´s first collaborative lung machine".

TECHNIC

From the technical point of view, ∆NIM∆ ∆PP is a progressive web application (PWA), a software that (1) firstly, locates the user´s exact geographical coordinate according to the GPS and picks the average value of the AQI from the nearest measuring station. Used are presently the dynamic open source data bases of Air Quality Open Data Platform (https://waqi.info), Global Carbon Atlas-platform (http://www.globalcarbonatlas.org) and of German Environment Agency (https://www.umweltbundesamt.de/en).
(2) Secondly, ∆NIM∆ ∆PP measures individuals´ persistence and engagement while blowing into the microphone (the basic function). ∆NIM∆ ∆PP is an ongoing project-in-progress, i.e. refinements are intended according both to the development and density of the existing data bases, measuring stations as well as the individual input equipment (mobile phone, tablet and the like).

GOALS

Based on actual data and real inputs of diverse research and common institutions and supported by the individual usages, the ∆NIM∆ ∆PP is an artistic effort to widen the scope of visualizing the conflux of global, local and individual air streams and to interpret them in an even more profound and pro-active way. ∆NIM∆ ∆PP widens the formal and chromatic spectrum of the existing custom global and regional maps and time series of carbon fluxes and contributes to the community and collaborative international research as an artistic effort intended to serve an even broader spectrum of users. Color gradations are hence refined by extension to 233 (a number on the Fibonacci-scale).

By reaching out the broadest audience both in public and personal settings and providing an exciting interactive aesthetic and educational experience, the ∆NIM∆ ∆PP aims at leading to new awareness, knowledge and action to support global efforts in limiting the human-induced consequences of the climate change. Moreover, this platform addresses the aspired “healing” aspects also on conceptual level by pointing out the int
