Dam Safety Simulation

A gamified experience to raise awareness on the importance of dam safety emergency action and preparedness. In the experience, the user plays the role of a dam manager during a developing emergency and must operationalize the emergency preparedness plan and make decisions to avoid catastrophic consequences downstream. User choices determine the outcome of the simulation. With this app, users will become familiarized with emergency response actions, roles of different emergency management stakeholders, and experience the pressure of real-time decision-making. This experience is a companion to the World Bank’s good practice materials and resources on the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Standards related to dam safety. At the end of the simulation, users will better understand what it takes to ensure the safety of dams and the communities who live downstream of them. This simulation is intended for an interested but non-expert audience.
