There is a saying that
التائب من الذنب كمن لا ذنب له
One who repents from sin is like someone without sin.

The idea is to be intentional about what we are asking forgiveness for and truly feel remorse for our actions for however long one wants. So, note it down and when you're ready focus in on the action and truly repent for what you did.
