Tongits Card Game Rules

Tongits is a popular card game in the Philippines, typically played by 2 to 4 players. The game is a mix of strategy and luck, involving forming sets and runs to reduce your hand's point value. Here are the basic rules:

Objective

The goal of Tongits is to be the first player to "Tongits" (go out) by forming valid sets and runs, or to have the lowest point total if no one can Tongits.
Setup

1. Players: 4 players.

2. Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck. Jokers are not used.
3. Dealing:
Each participant is dealt 12 cards.
The remaining cards make up the draw pile.
- To begin the discard pile, the top card in the draw pile is flipped.

Gameplay

1. The player to the left of the dealer goes first when the game begins. A player can choose to draw a card from the draw pile or take the top card out of the discard pile when it is their turn.
2. Forming Sets and Run:

- Sets: Three or four cards of the same rank (e.g., three 7s).
- Runs: Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 5, 6, 7).
- Players can lay down sets or runs on the table during their turn.

3. Discarding

- After drawing and (optionally) laying down cards, the player must discard one card to the discard pile to end their turn.

4. Tongits:

- A player can declare "Tongits" if they have no cards left in their hand after forming valid sets and runs.
- If a player Tongits, the round ends, and the other players count their remaining card points.

5. Blocking

- If a player suspects another player is close to Tongits, they can declare "Block" to end the round early. All players then reveal their hands and count their points.

Scoring

- Cards are scored as follows:

- Ace = 1 point
- 2 to 10 = value
- King, Queen, and Jack each receive ten points.
- The round is won by the player with the fewest points overall..
- If a player Tongits, they score 0 points, and the other players count their remaining cards.

Winning the Game

- The game is typically played in multiple rounds.
