Graves and Thyroid Eye Disease offers individuals living with Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) a unique way to document and visualize their eye measurements for personal educational purposes. Using the advanced LiDAR sensor and camera on your compatible iPhone or iPad, this app helps you create 3D facial models to better understand and track estimated changes in ocular protrusion (exophthalmos) over time.
How It Works:
Scanning (Requires Assistance): Due to the nature of facial scanning, you will need another person to help capture the 3D data. The assistant will use your device to slowly move around your face, capturing images and depth information according to the in-app guidance.
3D Model Creation: The app processes the captured data to generate a textured 3D model (.usdz format) of your face.
Calibration: Before measuring, the app needs calibration using your pupillary distance (PD). You can obtain this using the app's TrueDepth camera feature (requires Face ID capable device), an on-screen ruler tool, or by manually entering a known value.
Virtual Measurement: Load your saved 3D models within the app. Carefully tap on specific anatomical landmarks (corneal apices and lateral orbital rims) as guided. The app then calculates estimated protrusion values based on these landmarks and the PD calibration.
