This app lets mental health clinicians and providers find vetted, trusted guidance and answers to complex questions around serious mental illness (SMI). Through its website and app, SMI CalAdviser supports you with:
• Education
High-quality webinars that offer expert guidance on key topics and provide continuing education credits

• Resources
Vetted fact sheets, toolkits, guides, and tools that provide answers and support clinical decisions

• Consultations
Clinical consultations for any clinician and provider who works in DSH or its community partners

Plus, the app offers access to gold-standard mental health assessments! This may be useful when you work with patients. It gives you:
• On-the-go access to use these tools when and where they may be helpful.
• Real-time feedback and scores based on the data that you input.


SMI CalAdviser's mission is to advance care for people who have serious mental illness (SMI) and are found incompetent to stand trial (IST) in California. It helps improve the knowledge and skills of anyone who plays a role in the treatment and support of SMI and IST. SMI CalAdviser is useful across the whole mental health continuum of care. This includes correctional settings, state hospitals, and community partners.

*NOTE -- Some areas of the app are not open to the general public, such as education and consultations. These are only for employees of the State of California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) and its community partners.
