App Description
Learn to read and hear the 24 letters of the Koine Greek alphabet, the alphabet of the New Testament. The app is made for seminary and theology students, pastors, homeschool families, and anyone starting to read Scripture in its original language. No ads, no subscriptions, no account.
Each quiz has 14 questions and adapts as you go. Letters you know come back less often, and letters that give you trouble come back sooner, so your practice time goes where you need it.
LEARN EACH LETTER'S SOUND
Every letter includes its sound in the Erasmian pronunciation, the system taught in many seminaries and Greek grammars, along with its SBL transliteration. Listening questions play a letter and ask you to pick it. Sound questions show the Erasmian sound in writing, so you learn to connect each letter with how it is pronounced.
QUESTION TYPES
- See a letter and choose its name
- See a name and choose the uppercase or lowercase letter
- Hear a letter and choose its uppercase or lowercase form
- Match an uppercase letter to its lowercase form, or the reverse
- What sound does this letter make? Choose the Erasmian sound
- Which letter makes this sound? Choose the letter
Final sigma (ς) is taught as a form of Sigma, so you will recognize it at the end of a word.
PRACTICE THAT FOLLOWS YOUR MISTAKES
The app keeps track of which letters you mix up. At the Intermediate and Advanced levels it uses them as answer choices, so your quizzes work on your real weak spots. The Home screen shows how many letters are due for review.
THREE LEVELS
Move from Beginner to Intermediate to Advanced. Higher levels add more listening questions and answer choices that look or sound alike. To move up, finish five quizzes in a row with no more than one miss in each, spread over at least two days.
DAILY PRACTICE STREAK
Practice each day to build your streak, and see both your current and best streak. A daily reminder is available if you want one. It is off unless you turn it on.
PROGRESS FOR EVERY LETTER
Each letter has its own page with your accuracy, current and longest streak, mastery score, and the letters you most often confuse it with. A letter becomes Mastered after at least 8 answers at 90% accuracy with 3 right in a row, and then a correct answer on a later day. After that, it stays Mastered as long as your accuracy on its last 10 answers stays at 90% or higher.
