App Description
WindTrac - wind, wave, and weather forecast map
WindTrac is a wind, wave, and weather forecast app for iPhone and iPad that turns raw forecast data into a live, animated map you can read at a glance. Instead of burying conditions under menus, ads, and dense overlays, WindTrac shows tens of thousands of particles flowing along the wind field, with wind speed encoded in color and wind direction encoded in motion. The result is a clear, beautiful picture of where the air is moving anywhere on Earth, from your local coastline to the open ocean.
WindTrac is built for sailors, kitesurfers, windsurfers, surfers, paragliders, pilots, fishers, boaters, hikers, photographers, and anyone who plans their day around the weather. It is designed to be the simplest, fastest way to understand the forecast, while still drawing on the same professional forecast models used by serious weather services.
What you can do with WindTrac
WindTrac gives you three core layers that cover the conditions most people care about. The wind layer renders animated wind streamlines across the globe, so you can see both the strength and the flow of the wind at once. The wave layer shows significant wave height as a smooth color heatmap, along with wave direction, so you can watch swell build and see where it is heading. The precipitation layer paints rain and snow intensity across the map, frame by frame, so you can track systems moving in and clearing out.
Every layer is animated through time. You can drag the timeline to any forecast hour, or press play and let the forecast run, with smooth cross fades between frames and playback speeds from 1x up to 8x. This lets you watch a multi day weather system evolve in seconds, then slow back down to study the exact hour that matters to you.
With WindTrac, tap anywhere on the map to read the exact wind speed or wave height at that point for the selected hour, and the app labels notable high and low values automatically. You can save the locations you watch most and jump straight back to them, snap to your current location, and display times in your device time zone, the viewed location time zone, or UTC. Time zones for viewed locations are resolved on your device, so the timeline always matches the place you are looking at.
