App Description
The Dolphin & Whale 911 app enables you to immediately report live or dead stranded, injured, or entangled whales, dolphins, porpoises, sea lions, and seals along the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas and St. Croix), and Pacific Island territories. Your report will immediately go to trained and authorized emergency responders. This app enables you to report dead marine mammals, as well as live marine mammals in distress and in need of assistance. Your quick reporting may help save an animal’s life by providing rescuers with real time information about the location and kind of marine mammal in trouble and allows scientists to collect valuable information that will help marine mammal conservation.
This app allows you to:
> Report live or dead stranded, injured or entangled marine mammals by connecting you to the nearest stranding response hotline, so that trained responders and veterinarians can help the animal.
> Send a time/date/GPS coordinate stamped photo of the animal to the Marine Mammal Stranding Network.
> Identify the animal by providing an electronic field guide of marine mammals found off the United States including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas and St. Croix), and Pacific Island territories.
> Help rescue live and dead marine mammals by providing you with a list of “do’s and don’ts” or tips on what to do when you find a live or dead stranded marine mammal.
