App Description

App to collect data for the DEDICAT study at Ghent University

The DEDICAT app is one of the tools associated with the research of the DEDICAT study at Ghent University. The ultimate goal of this study is to predict depressive episodes in a vulnerable population. For more information about the research, please visit the website of the PreDiCT team (http://predict.idlab.ugent.be), part of the IDLab research group at UGent. More information about the DEDICAT study can be found at http://predict.idlab.ugent.be/studies/dedicat. The DEDICAT study is a collaboration between PANlab, IDLab, GHEPlab, and imec-mict-UGent.

If you are not an active participant in the DEDICAT study, you will not be able to do anything with this app, so there is no point in installing it.

The app is currently in the first phase of development, focusing on collecting contextual data. The functionality of the app will be continuously expanded as the research progresses. The study also collects contextual data from a smartwatch using a Wear OS app. This Wear OS app will also be further functionally expanded during the study. This wearable app also includes a Tile that allows stress events to be added quickly and efficiently.

This app uses an Accessibility Service to monitor application usage on your device. You can refuse this, cancel your participation, or have your data deleted at any time.

The app uses a foreground service that continuously collects contextual and physiological data from the smartphone and wearable. If you allow this data collection, this continuous collection ensures that all data can be continuously transmitted to our servers when an active Wi-Fi connection is available, for analysis. Insights into stress levels, activity levels, and sleep can therefore be determined continuously, and if relevant, you will receive an event in the app's timeline where feedback can be provided on this event. You can see that this foreground service is active by the presence of a permanent notification. If this service cannot run, on-device data processing cannot take place and online models will also not receive data from your device, meaning no feedback can be generated.
