The ingredients of a product in the grocery store are not always healthy but may include harmful additives because the producer may use functional additives for different purposes.
The producer might use preservatives to allow longer storage in their warehouse. The product may also include colourants so that it looks more colourful or hides unwanted colours. Food and beverages can further contain other chemicals to make it easier to produce them or to give it certain properties like texture.
As a consumer it's often hard to uncover such components of a product and be well informed what he or she eats in the end. Eating harmful products can lead to sicknesses and feeling unwell so we better check what ingredients and e-numbers are printed on food and drinks to stay healthy and vital.
A good guidance is to favour organic produce and try to get as many natural, untreated products as possible.
