Al-Barzanji or Berzanji is a prayer, praise and storytelling of the history of the Prophet Muhammad which is usually sung with a rhythm or tone. The content of Berzanji tells about the life of the Prophet Muhammad, namely his genealogy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, until he was appointed as an apostle. It also tells of the noble qualities of the Prophet Muhammad and various events to serve as examples for mankind.

The name Barzanji is taken from the name of the author, a Sufi named Shaykh Ja'far bin Husin bin Abdul Karim bin Muhammad Al-Brzanji. He is the author of the famous and famous Maulid Al-Barzanji. The paper is actually entitled 'Iqd Al-Jawahir (jeweled necklace) or 'Iqd Al-Jawhar fi Mawlid An-Nabiyyil Azhar. Barzanji is actually the name of a place in Kurdistan, Barzanj. The content is a Khulasah (summary) of the Nabawiyah Sirah which includes the story of his birth, his sending as an apostle, migration, morality, war until his death. Shaykh Ja'far Al-Barzanji was born on the first Thursday of the month of Zulhijjah in 1126 in Medina Al-Munawwarah and died on Tuesday, after Asr, 4 Sha'ban in 1177 H in the city of Medina and was buried in Jannatul Baqi`, below the maqam. he was from among the daughters of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
