Features
Measuring about 13.5 centimeters in length, it is similar in size to the sparrow and weighs between 11 and 18 grams.
Its coloration is dark brown on the upper part and red on the lower parts and head, especially in the male, which has an intense color and a red forelock with a black band. Both sexes have a white line around the eyes. The coloring of females is not as shiny and more brownish.

Its scientific name means: do (Greek) zönë = with lists; striped; and thrix, trikhos = hair; and capensis = referring to the cape of good hope; ⇒ Bird with streaked hair from the Cape of Good Hope.

Features
Medium sized bird that measures 15 centimeters in length. It has a compact body, with regular-sized wings and tail, slender legs and feet, and a strong, conical beak. The dorsal coloration is grayish-brown, with a gray head with two black strips that start from the base of the maxilla going to the nape, with a gray central part, also starting from the same base and extending to the nape of the neck.
The cheeks are gray in color, with two black strips on each side that go to the neck region, one from the back corner of the eye and the other from the corner of the beak. Neck with a banded band of a reddish-rusty color that descends to the sides of the high chest, where it meets a black spot.
