A guide to the butterflies of Colombia focused on taxonomy and images.
This app's goal is to introduce people to the world of butterflies all around them by helping them learn about the different types of butterflies, and some of their important features. The butterflies are organized by taxonomy, and shown with many images (it is said that a picture is worth a thousand words). The six main families of butterflies are described on the first page, and clicking one of the families leads you to a menu of subfamilies, tribes, and finally the different species. About 1000 images can be downloaded in bulk (around 120 MB) or
individually. Images are 1152 pixels on the long side, so look great on a tablet. Not all species found in Colombia are included in the guide, and some are surely misidentified. The app is in english of Spanish, although the Spanish is created automatically and has not been thoroughly checked. This first release is a proof of concept, and subsequent releases will have many more photos, and text, and possibly thumbnail pages for helping with identification.
