Over the years Caterpillar has continued to improve, evolve, and grow our MineStar products and solutions to better meet our customers’ needs. Our current platform has served them well for over 20 years, but now we have an opportunity to make it easier to use and deploy the technologies we develop. Named MineStar Edge, the technology offerings will be hosted on a new platform to make buying and using them easier, more efficient, and more cost-effective for mines of all types and sizes. Edge offerings will be delivered as cloud-based and subscription-based solutions, which our customers have told us is important to their businesses. The solutions will be scalable, letting users install and pay for only those capabilities they require.

There are several benefits to offering solutions through a cloud-based platform. Information is easier to access, and in many cases, it will be in near-real time, so miners can make informed decisions during a shift to have an immediate impact on productivity.

1. Improved data security and reduced costs, thanks to data being hosted off-site
2. The ability to deploy product updates more easily
