Mediascope Internet Audience Research Application

The Mediameter app was developed to conduct research on user preferences online. Searching for products and making purchases using mobile apps on smartphones, reading news on popular websites, watching videos, and consulting maps to find the right address are an integral part of modern life. However, apps and websites aren't always user-friendly, making it difficult to access the information you need. To make your favorite apps and websites better and more convenient, we're conducting this internet audience research. Participating in the research is an opportunity to influence app and website developers, advertisers, and manufacturers of various goods and services. We study the audience of mobile internet users in Russia – their interests, profiles, and consumer preferences. This data helps major companies across the country better understand their consumers, develop their internet services, and make them more user-friendly.

All participants are randomly selected and receive an individual invitation containing detailed information about the research. Participation in the project is possible only by personal invitation. Each participant installs the Mediameter app on their personal mobile device (smartphone) and enters a unique registration code. The app then runs in the background and requires no active intervention. Simply check the app's functionality once a day (or every few days) in the "Statistics" section. If any issues arise, an error message will appear in the main window when opening the app. If necessary, each participant can contact technical support using the contact information provided in their individual invitation or within the app.
We guarantee the protection of the personal data of study participants. All information we collect is completely confidential and is included in the final statistics only in an anonymized and aggregated form.

Use of the Accessibility Service API:
It's important to us to understand how much time you spend in your favorite apps, so we use the Accessibility Service API to collect data about web resources (domains) visited on the internet and search queries. All data is encrypted during transmission and used anonymously and strictly anonymized, and is not shared with third parties. The app never uses the accessibility service to perform any active actions on behalf of the user. Enabling this service improves the quality of our research on the popularity of online resources.

Using a virtual private network (VPN):
Since Mediameter is an app for studying the audience of mobile apps and websites, it uses the VPN service as its primary means of monitoring mobile app usage by research panel participants. Mediameter uses the VPN service as a local tunnel and does not send VPN traffic to the server. Processing and analysis of metadata collected using the VPN service occurs directly on the research participant's device. Aggregated and anonymized app usage monitoring data does not contain personal or confidential user data and is transmitted to the company's servers only in encrypted form.
