How Bid Whist works (quick overview)
Players bid the number of books they expect to win above six (or pass). The winning bidder sets trump (or direction in No Trumps), takes the kitty, discards, and play begins. Players follow suit if possible; otherwise they may play any card including trump.
The bidding team scores for meeting their contract and is penalised for failing. First team to +7 (or forcing opponents to -7) wins.
