The forest laboratory shows and researches the forest influenced and tended by humans: the cultural forest. The history of the cultural forest began when the first tree was felled.
On the Hönggerberg, an open-air laboratory with historical, current and future forms of forest management is being built on an area of 1.5 square kilometers. The services of the forest for people are also discussed: e.g. the cooling capacity, the storage of greenhouse gas or forest bathing. The forest laboratory has a time horizon of 100 years.
The forest laboratory is a place of learning, experience and research at the same time. This creates an outdoor classroom for students, an adventurous forest for families, and a research location for professionals.
