Sheikh Maher Ibn Hamd Ibn Al Mueaqly is a world-renowned Qari (Qur’an reciter) .

Sheikh Maher Al-Mueaqly is an imam at the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. He left his career as a mathematics teacher to become a scholar in Makkah and is now a popular preacher and teacher of Islamic studies.

Born in Madinah in 1969, Al-Mueaqly earned a degree in mathematics and joined the educational staff of Balat Al Shuhada School and later became the student’s adviser in Abd Al-Majid School in Makkah. In 2004, he obtained a master’s degree in Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) from Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah and went on to earn a PhD from the same university in 2012.

Sheikh Al-Mueaqly started to lead prayers he various masajid in Makkah and Madinah. His recitation soon gained attraction, with people overflowing in masajid to pray behind him and listen to his Recitation.

He eventually left his job as an adviser and began to teach at King Abdullah University. He was appointed to lead Taraweeh in Masjid Al Nabawi in the years 2005 and 2006 and then in 2007, he was appointed to lead Taraweeh in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah, and soon after Ramadan, he was appointed as a permanent Imam.

Sheikh Al-Mueaqly used to lead Taraweeh along with Sheikh Abdul-Rahman Al-Sudais and then later in 2008 he started to pair with Sheikh Abdullah Awad Al Juhany until 2014.

He was appointed as Khateeb of Masjid Al Haram in Ramadan in 2016 after a royal decree was issued by King Salman. He delivered his first Khutbah in Masjid Al Haram on 15th July 2016.
