Sinice.pl is an application used to monitor blooms Polish lakes.

Sinice.pl is an application used to monitor blooms Polish lakes. With the use of satellite data we are continuously observe the reservoirs. With the mobile app, our users are completely free of charge receive warnings about blue-green algae bloom really.

We use satellite data from European satellites Sentinel Sentinel 2 and 3 as well as Landsat 8 belonging to NASA. We examine the concentration of chlorophyll-a and phycocyanin in water bodies and on this basis identify areas at risk of blooms. Then the results of our algorithms get to specialists, who then perform the microbiological tests indicated the water in the tanks. On this basis, we are able to evaluate the performance of the algorithms and the pilot confirm the threat. When algorithms or results of microbiological tests indicate a risk of blooms of cyanobacteria to inform users about this.


CBAS (Cyanobacteria Bloom Alert Service) is a project conducted in Polish-French consortium aimed at providing facilities for the permanent monitoring of inland waters in Poland and Europe. The pilot project focuses on the area of ​​Kaszuby and lagoon. Cyanobacteria blooms occur in water bodies around the world and include both inland waters and the seas and oceans. Bloom is conditioned conditions at the tanks, depending on the physico-chemical factors like sunlight, temperature, pH, and water composition. Of great importance in the formation of blooms are flowing down to the water pollution from fields and urban areas.
