Hypocrites ({In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease}) (Al-Baqarah 2:10). Ibn al-Qayyim - may God have mercy on him - explored their stories by examining and contemplating verses in the texts of the two revelations. He was a prominent figure in Islamic religious reform in the eighth century AH. He was born in Damascus to Kurdish parents and studied under Ibn Taymiyyah al-Dimashqi, who was also born to Kurdish parents and was influenced by him. His profession was as an imam at al-Jawziyya, teaching at al-Sadriya and elsewhere, and issuing fatwas and writing. "Or do those in whose hearts is disease think that God will never expose their hatred?" The seed of hypocrisy grows on two roots: the root of lies and the root of hypocrisy.
