The Uganda Clinical Guidelines (UCG) App is a comprehensive clinical reference and decision-support tool designed for health workers across Uganda. Built to support clinicians at the point of care, the app provides fast, reliable access to the Uganda Clinical Guidelines (UCG) and other important Ministry of Health (MoH) resources. It helps healthcare providers quickly review diagnosis, treatment protocols, and clinical procedures while working in busy clinical environments.

The app is designed to function offline, ensuring that healthcare workers can access essential guidance even in facilities with limited or unreliable internet connectivity. With a powerful search system and a structured browse interface, users can quickly find clinical conditions, treatment recommendations, and important clinical notes without having to navigate lengthy printed manuals.

The UCG App organizes the Uganda Clinical Guidelines into an easy-to-use digital format that allows clinicians to quickly move between sections such as symptoms, diagnosis, investigations, and treatment. Tables, dosage guidance, and management protocols are presented in a clear and readable format to support rapid clinical decision-making.

Beyond the core guidelines, the app also integrates links to other Ministry of Health policies and guidelines, providing a centralized reference for additional clinical and programmatic resources. This allows health workers to access important documents such as disease management protocols, national program guidelines, and other official reference materials without needing multiple separate sources.

To further support frontline decision-making, the app includes a suite of clinical decision-making tools and health calculators. These tools assist clinicians in quickly performing essential clinical calculations during patient care. Available tools include:

• Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator for nutritional assessment
• Serum Creatinine and renal function estimations
• Drug dosing calculators to help determine safe and appropriate medication doses
• The Appointment Scheduler feature helps facilities organize patient follow-ups and manage clinic appointments more efficiently. This functionality supports continuity of care by helping providers track upcoming visits and schedule patients appropriately.

These built-in tools reduce the need for manual calculations and help ensure that treatment decisions follow recommended clinical standards.

The app also includes communication and support features that connect health workers to additional expertise and services. This helps promote continuous learning and collaboration across the health system.

For urgent support or reporting, the app provides quick access to the Ministry of Health hotline, enabling health workers to rapidly contact national support services when needed.

The UCG App is designed to support doctors, clinical officers, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals working across hospitals, health centres, and community settings. By placing national clinical guidance and practical decision-support tools directly in the hands of health workers for everyday practice, the app aims to strengthen adherence to national standards and improve the quality of patient care in Uganda and other similar settings.
