App Description
Step up to the mic! Test your throwback knowledge in Hip-Hop, R&B, TV & movies.
The Urban Rewind is a timed, multiple-choice trivia game centered on music and pop culture. Players test their knowledge across entertainment categories while managing a virtual currency system (“Mics”), unlocking achievements, and progressing through tiered levels.
Categories & Access
At launch, players have access to:
* Hip-Hop
* R&B
The TV and Movies categories are visible but locked, indicated with a lock icon.
Players begin with 3 Mics. Locked categories and additional Mics can be purchased via in-app purchases. Tapping a locked category or “Buy Mics” opens the checkout interface with the correct product and pricing.
On successful purchase:
* Mic balances or category access update immediately.
* If a category is unlocked, the user is automatically taken to that category’s “Good Luck” screen.
On failed or canceled transactions:
* The user returns to the previous screen.
* No changes are made to access or Mic balance.
Players can assign purchased Mics to specific categories from the Play screen. During active gameplay, Mics default to the current category but may be adjusted.
Gameplay & Mic Rules
Each session presents one question at a time with four answer choices (A/B/C/D). After selecting an answer, players receive immediate feedback (“Correct” or “Incorrect”) along with explanatory text.
Mics function as the attempt system:
* A player is not considered to have lost while 1 Mic remains.
* If prompted to purchase Mics at this stage, the gameplay timer resets to 10 seconds once the prompt is accepted or dismissed.
A loss occurs only when the Mic count reaches 0.
* When this happens, the session ends and a Results screen is displayed.
* If a user purchases Mics after reaching 0, they cannot resume the ended session. They must restart the category from 0 correct answers (clean restart), though they may restart within their highest unlocked level band.
* After purchasing Mics following a loss, users are redirected to the Home screen.
Leveling & Progression
Each category features a cumulative badge system. All badges are grayed out at the start.
Level thresholds:
* Gold: 15 correct answers
* Platinum: 20 additional correct answers
* Multi-Platinum: 25 additional correct answers
* Diamond: 30 additional correct answers
Levels must be completed sequentially.
Once Diamond is achieved:
* The category is considered complete.
* The user is routed back to the beginning to replay the category.
* The Diamond badge remains visible until Gold is reached again during replay.
The highest level achieved in each category is permanently recorded. If a user exits or loses, they resume from the difficulty band of their highest unlocked level rather than starting from the beginning.
Audio & Sponsor Integration
Sponsor-provided background music (Artist + Title) plays on:
* Splash screen
* Login screen
* Rules screen
* Category selection screen
Music is ON by default when the app launches or when returning to the main screen. Users may tap a track to open an external link (e.g., Spotify or social media) in their browser.
During gameplay:
* Correct and Incorrect sound effects play for every question.
* On level-up, a dedicated Level-Up sound plays, and background music is temporarily paused.
UI & Session Management
Before starting any category, users see a “Good Luck” screen displaying their current level.
If a user leaves mid-session, the app saves:
* Question index
* Mic count
* Progress
Upon returning, users are prompted to Continue or Start Over.
A Results screen appears when:
* The user exits,
* A level threshold is reached, or
* Mics reach 0.
The Results screen displays total correct and incorrect answers, Mic changes, and the next milestone required for level advancement.
