ILMU TAJWID PRAKTIS

Linguistically, tajwid comes from the word تَجوِدًا (tajwidan) which is rooted in the word جَوَّدَ (jawwada) – يُجَوِّدُ (yujawwidu), which means "beautify" or "make good". In another linguistic sense, tajwid can also be interpreted as: "Everything that brings goodness."

Meanwhile, in terms of terms, tajwid is a science that teaches how to give each letter its rights and mustahak, including the properties of letters, mad laws, and so on such as tarqiq (thinning) and tafkhim (thickening) of letters. This definition is explained in the book Hidayatul Mustafid as follows:

"The science that provides all the understanding of letters, both the rights of letters (haqqul letters) and new laws that emerge after the rights of letters (mustahaqqul letters) are fulfilled, which consists of the properties of letters, madd laws, and so on. Examples of its application are tarqiq and tafkhim."

From this understanding, it is clear how important it is for a Muslim to learn the science of recitation in order to be able to read the Koran correctly and beautifully according to the specified rules.
