The Niederrheinische open-air museum of the district Viersen is located in the municipality Grefrath on the Lower Rhine. There it shows the rural-handicraft culture of the region. Surrounded by cottage gardens, orchards and pollarded willows, historic farmhouses and workshops illustrate how the people of the region lived and worked in the past. In the middle of the museum is the landmarked Dorenburg. It houses changing special exhibitions on various cultural and historical topics. A museum in the museum is the toy museum: Here, toys from the last 200 years are shown on three floors. In addition, various model trains are regularly presented. The Aunt Emma shop and the Pannekookehuus invite you to linger over fresh coffee and cake as well as sweet and savory pancakes.
