App Description
Simulate a tsunami's wave as it travels through the ocean and onto shore.
Did you know tsunamis can travel from the middle of the ocean to the shoreline? Well what if you were on a boat in the middle of the ocean during a tsunami, how different do you think the tsunami would be compared to being on shore? Good thing you don’t have to test this out in real life!
Tsunami Sim is an Earth science simulation where players can observe the amplitude and wavelength of both ocean waves and tsunamis. Players can test different earthquake magnitudes and different windspeeds to visualize their impact on waves in deep ocean and on shore.
• Aligned to educational science standards for third to fifth grade
• Grounded in educational psychology research
• Sandbox design dynamically simulates the scientific phenomena of tsunamis and waves
• Designed for play and discovery-based learning
• Introduces students to concepts such as the relationship between earthquakes and their magnitudes and tsunamis
• Fully standalone learning experience
• Shore mode designed to be used with SSEC Science for the Classroom Curriculum
