App Description
A guide to the Shorefishes of the Tropical East Pacifici
This App is adapted from the website Shorefishes of the tropical eastern Pacific: online information system www.stri.org/sftep. It was designed to provide a set of portable identification tools equivalent to those in that website. Fishes: East Pacific was the first in a set of 3 portable identification guides to neotropical shorefishes for mobile touch-screen devices from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. That set of apps will provide comprehensive coverage of the shore-fish faunas of all three neotropical marine biogeographic regions: the Tropical Eastern Pacific, the Greater Caribbean (Caribbean and adjacent areas) and Brazil. Together those 3 regions host about 25% of the world’s tropical shorefishes. Fishes: East Pacific and its sister app Fishes: Greater Caribbean, have the same format and functionality, and provide equivalent information and similar portable identification tools and work independently of the web after being downloaded. As well as acting as ID Guides both Apps allows users to make and organize lists that record information about species of fishes included in the App’s database, and download those by email.
