■What is Edo Castle reconstruction?
Edo Castle Reconstruction is a project to rebuild the Edo Castle Kan'ei Castle Tower, which was destroyed in the Great Fire of Meireki in 1657, as faithfully as possible to history, and to connect Japanese culture and tradition to the future. By re-building the castle tower on top of the castle tower using purely domestic timber and traditional construction methods, it will be announced to the world as a symbolic landmark of Tokyo. This reconstruction will contribute to establishing a Japanese identity and promoting tourism, as well as regional revitalization and environmental protection. The activities are led by the certified NPO "Edo Castle Castle Tower Reconstruction Association."
■Why did you create Edo Castle Reconstruction WALKERS?
The rebuilding of Edo Castle has a deeper meaning than just a tourism project. Edo Castle, which has a history of about 400 years, is a symbol of Japan's identity, and its reconstruction demonstrates the social value of cultural heritage. This project is an opportunity to pass on Japanese tradition and culture to the next generation and share it with the world. Beyond the economic benefits, this is an important initiative that strengthens national pride and cultural identity, and presents a new image of Japan.
