App Description
Set one dimension and the classical order draws itself to the canon
A classical order is not a picture, it is an arithmetic. Fix one dimension β the storey height, the column height, or the lower diameter β and every other measurement in the composition follows from it by the module. Fruit Cocatil is the bench where that arithmetic is done β
and checked. Choose one of the five orders, set your governing dimension on the scale rule, and the whole thing is drawn to scale on the sheet: pedestal, base, shaft with its entasis constructed by the rule of the circle, capital, architrave, frieze and cornice, each part named in the register beside the drawing with its height in modules and parts. Move a proportion and the drawing follows you. Then it reads the composition back and tells you where it departs from the canon β a shaft grown too slender for its order, an entablature starved below a fifth of the column, a pedestal overgrown, the wrong β number π’ of flutes, bays opened wider than a stone architrave will span. Every figure is computed on your own device π±, offline.
Key features in Fruit Cocatil:
- The five orders β Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian and Composite β with their full canon of column, entablature, pedestal, capital and slenderness
- A measured elevation drawn to scale, with a numbered module ladder down its edge and a leader to every part
- The entasis set out by the rule of the circle, or by straight diminution, or left off entirely
- Fluting arithmetic per order: twenty flutes on the arris, twenty-four with fillets, or an unfluted shaft
- Intercolumniation from pycnostyle to araeostyle, drawn in plan πΊοΈ with the spacing dimensioned
- Nine canon faults, each drawn as a diagram π with what goes wrong β and how to set it right
- An atlas of 14 mouldings drawn from their profiles, 12 carved ornaments, 8 building stones and 10 setting-out instruments
- Photograph a real portico and lay the computed profile over it to read how far the built thing departs
- Commit a composition as a plate and keep it; the Record charts π your plates by order, your slenderness over time β±οΈ and the faults you make most
- Measurements in modules and parts, millimetres, or feet and inches
- Works entirely offline π΄; nothing leaves the device π± and nothing is asked of you but the numbers π’
