This walking tour takes you back to World War II.
The Weapon Dropping Walking Tour follows the trail of the weapons that were dropped in De Deelen during the Second World War. This is also the starting point. Why this walking tour? This tour was to be held in the commemoration year of 2020 of 75 years of liberation, but due to the Corona crisis and the situation in Ukraine, it has been moved to May 6, 2023. This tour is a special and unique opportunity for young and old to 'experience' the Second World War .
It is more of an experience tour than a 'quick' walking tour. At the various locations, the participants can pause or sit down to experience the events that are played and depicted. We need to “experience” war over and over again in order to celebrate and appreciate freedom. Unlike a book or a story, the moments of experience give the participants the feeling: “As I see it now, it really happened. It comes very close, almost on the skin, especially with the youth”.
What is shown on the 15 experience moments actually happened. There are moments of experience with the theme of 'war' and with the theme of 'liberation'. The events that are shown are based on the book 'Droppingveld Wardrobe' (Wapens in De Deelen)' by Hessel Bouma from 2018.
Such a large-scale event has never been seen in Fryslân before!
