Inspiring parents to play with their children aged 1-6 yrs using what’s at home

Play@Home with Singakwenza is designed to enable parents and caregivers to create and enjoy learning through play opportunities with their preschool children. The adults will learn how to make toys using just a pair of scissors, a marker and household packaging that they have in their home. This makes the toys easily accessible to all families and can easily be replaced if they get lost or broken. The adults are encouraged to play with their children with these toys for just 10 minutes a day. Every few days a new toy ‘recipe’ is given, which the adults can either make themselves or include their children in part of the process. This is followed by a few days of different games that can be played using this toy.

The foundational skills that each toy and activity focus on are explained for the adult, so that they can see the development and subsequent mastery of the various skills in their little ones. This helps the adults to understand how each game and activity is preparing their children for success in formal education.

Children learn best in a warm, engaged and caring relationship with a significant adult, so Play@Home with Singakwenza is designed to help the adult feel competent in providing simple, fun, hands-on activities that their child will enjoy. Daily interaction provides an environment where the child is actively involved while enjoying special time with their parent or caregiver.
