Ostinato from the Land of Sono

Musical educational application. Explore Ostinato and compose your own music

This educational game on musical themes teaches children what ostinato really is and – most importantly – lets them compose their own music pieces made up of overlapping ostinati.

Ostinato is an incessant repetition of certain sound patterns, a kind of musical ‘loop’. The app makes it possible to play with various ostinati, make them more or less dense; but what the users will probably enjoy most is the superimposition of several ostinato one on another, so that they partly overlap, synchronise and de-synchronise in fascinating ways.

The app has been conceived as a complement for the educational children’s book Ostinato, which is part of the series Sonia in the Land of Sonoroos. The title heroine gets to know various sound phenomena through meetings with fabulous creatures from the land of sounds. The series includes, apart from Ostinato, also two other booklets: Glissando and Harmonics, each accompanied by a mobile app. We invite you to get acquainted with these publications.
