What is known today Almeida's life is recorded in the dedication of one of his books and the minutes of the presbyteries of Reformed Churches in Southeast Asia, for which he worked as a pastor, missionary and translator during the second half of the seventeenth century.
Born in the city of Tavares de Torres in Portugal, Almeida died in 1693 - in Batavia - current island of Java, Indonesia. With only 16, King James begins the Bible translation task, which is dedicated to the end of his life.
Today, the King James translation, made in 1753, is with us in several versions:
"Old Version" (Brazilian Bible Society and other publishers): because of the scrupulous fidelity to the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek is useful for the study, but too rigid for liturgical-catechetical use.
"Corrected Version" (Press Baptist): integrates stemmed fixes best manuscripts, gently updating the language.
"Updated version" (Brazilian Bible Society): also corrected based on the best manuscripts and updated more boldly about the language.
