OpenSRP FHIR based Community health tool for Uganda's VHTs and Supervisors
eCHIS Uganda is an Electronic Community Health Information System for Uganda's Ministry of Health, built on OpenSRP and powered by a FHIR-native architecture. Designed for Village Health Teams (VHTs), eCHIS supports frontline health workers in decision-making, care planning, and service delivery across their communities.
The app uses digital registers to organize client records by health category, making it easy to manage caseloads and plan home visits. Registers include Households, ANC Clients, PNC Clients, Child Clients, Family Planning Clients, and HIV/TB - giving VHTs a structured, comprehensive view of their community's health needs.
Key workflows supported:
- Maternal and child health — antenatal, postnatal, and newborn care support
- Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) for children under 5
- Community Events-Based Surveillance (CEBS) for early disease detection
- Family planning
- HIV/TB follow-up
- Referral tracking to ensure continuity of care
Stock management:
eCHIS tracks stock consumption and restocking for community-level commodities, with automated reporting at both community and national levels — reducing paperwork and improving supply chain visibility for VHTs.
