App Description
Trained on a custom collection of insect pest photos and trained at the UofI
Identify Cereal Pests is a research-driven field tool developed at the University of Idaho to help growers, agronomists, and researchers quickly identify the most important cereal pests found throughout the Palouse region of Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.
Built using a custom machine-learning model trained exclusively on hand-collected images of local pests, the app delivers fast, reliable identification in real-world conditions—right from your phone.
Key Features
• AI Pest Identification
Snap or upload a photo and our model identifies common cereal pests found in the Inland Northwest, trained entirely on region-specific images.
• Contribute to Regional Research
Every confirmed identification is placed anonymously on a research map, helping University of Idaho scientists better understand pest distribution and seasonal trends.
• Built for the Palouse
The pests targeted in this project are specific to the cereal-growing regions of Idaho, eastern Washington, and northeastern Oregon.
• Field-Ready Simplicity
Designed for quick use during scouting or field checks, with straightforward tools and no unnecessary complexity.
Why It Matters
Cereal pest pressure can vary dramatically across the Palouse. By combining AI identification with community-sourced mapping, this project supports early detection, better monitoring, and more effective integrated pest management.
